What We Teach

Waxing Moon provides many education services (through workshops, residencies and professional training) to schools K-12, colleges and universities, and theatre companies. Some of our clients have been The University of Maryland Baltimore County Drama department, Loyola Blakefield High School, area opera companies, and Colonial Players of Annapolis. Check out our testimonials page here. For an education experience to suit the needs of your players, please contact us at tara@waxingmoonmasks.com and we’ll be happy to map out a program just for you!

We provide 1 or 2 day workshops training in physical theatre and mask at your school or theatre space. Workshops offer dynamic introductions to physical theatre play, and can last as short as two hours or as long as an entire school day, depending on your training or project needs. The number of students recommended for individual workshops can vary according to the training topic, so please contact us for specifics.

We offer extended residencies, spanning days, weeks or months, according to your education needs. Residencies offer a deeper understanding and body retention of this physical work and play. Topics covered during a residency may focus on one value, such as Comedy, or may focus more broadly on a spectrum of skill sets, such as Commedia Dell’Arte, which encompasses mask play, devising and comedy. Tell us about your project or needs and we can create the perfect fit.

We offer professional training and stage direction for your production. Very often lesser known presentational theatre forms, such as Commedia Dell’Arte, are difficult to grasp through academic research. Even one hundred different videos on youtube showing different companies’ takes on that form might leave a would-be director or producer at a loss for where to begin in preparing a cast. We can help. We have assisted or directed numerous productions in both representational and presentational theatre, and have tried and true methods to help your show shine.

"...open-minded, dedicated to collaboration, and committed to strong results."
Colette Searls, UMBC Theatre Department, UNIMA-USA Board of Directors
